Final Reflection (eP 5)

I believe my professional presence has improved in more ways than one after a semester in Communication and Conflict Management. Although I was operating under the curation option of the ePortfolio project, there was additional work that I accomplished as a student in this course as well as an aspiring professional who built upon my digital identity online. Updating my “about me” page with more information about my personal life and professional aspirations will surely resonate well within my presentation for prospective employers. The new assignments I created and worked on in this course contribute well within my Wix ePortfolio site, specifically on my course works page where you can find written assignments completed in Communication and Conflict Management as well as a new relevant course list within the resume feature.

The specific element I like most about my curated ePortfolio is the professional construct that I have formed within the template. I believe I have optimized many different features of the ePortfolio technology and as a result have been graced with a design that will be beneficial to my professional aspirations and image. From embedding PDFs, to a slideshow gallery of my most memorable moments in community service, the accessible nature that I built on my page for both prospective employers and school peers to see and interact with is a very exciting accomplishment that I will hold closest from the efforts made on the platform.

The most challenging aspect I found in curating my ePortfolio was deciding between the different design and template options within Wix. Coming into this course’s semester long project I was already very familiar with the interactions and options that were within the platform, so I was not challenged in a technological sense, but rather in the activities of website building. I enjoyed designing in Wix prior to my time in this course, but the required pages and other relevant content in the project challenged my site to undergo expansion with more information included than before. I would advise for any future student involved in this course project to get familiar with the platform prior to publishing anything on the site you create. The first time I maneuvered through the Wix.com I was truly lost, and it took me more than a few interactions and visits on the platform for me to become a proficient user. I recommend to future students who may struggle at first with the platform to be patient and remain positive with any difficulties they encounter as the site building will become easier with effort and practice.

Course content relating to interests and goals that are found and practiced in conflict was the most interesting component of Communication and Conflict Management. I found this specific topic to be the most interesting due to the identity related content that interests me outside of the study of communications with philosophical implications included into the fold. These concepts were especially relevant to my own personal life as a partner in an ongoing relationship, so any information about partner interests and goals were most appreciated. The case study I analyzed and wrote a response to in this course taught me more information into what makes a good partner and how both sides can handle conflict in a healthier way. Although the couple documented in the case study was not responding well to the difference in each other’s unique set of priorities and values, it was a good lesson and view point for the reader to gather and understand the unhealthy impacts of resentment between partners. Furthermore, the case study shined a light on how our own directions in life can sometimes conflict and alter our partner’s and it is important to understand and practice healthy conflict management to keep a positive, progressing relationship foundation.

This course will benefit my future career in public relations thanks to the many conflict management strategies I learned along the way this semester. I know how to approach difficult situations with a logical approach that will benefit me in a high stress work environment one day with the keeping in mind of my peer’s feelings at the forefront of my efforts. Conflict is a part of life and will be encountered in capacities that I do not yet know of in my career, but I know that if I keep a level head and remain objective in the same ways that I learned about in this course I believe I will be ready to go in the professional world.
